My skill set is rare and difficult to obtain.  My knowledge of contract law and finance allows me to think critically regarding complex financial matters.

Break Status Quo in Contract Language

I understand YOU because I have been YOU (a teacher) for 20 years.  The status quo is not enough. Teachers and students DESERVE BETTER.  OUR working lives and working conditions are becoming increasingly difficult:

  • expecting all classes to continue with an online component.

  • expecting teachers to be fully responsible for all attendance issues.

  • expecting teachers to significantly modify delivery of their curriculum on a constant basis, such as UDL, without adequate time.

  • expecting teachers to assist IEP students with reduced resource spaces, funding and supports.

  • increase of on-calls assigned due to not acquiring a supply teacher.

  • by late allocation of teachers in September & October temporarily increasing workload.

  • bumping teachers into schools across the city with few opportunities for them to move back to a school closer to their home.

    • ONLY 6 successful transfers & 12 successful MAPS were granted last year.

    • Not allowing contract teachers to apply for job postings from July to April.  This year contract teachers COULD NOT APPLY for over 300 jobs.

Break Status Quo in Representation

Political action spending on elections & debating of issues not directly related to working conditions or representation needs to STOP! They do not result in contract gains.  We need to allow for significantly more money and time to be dedicated at the school:

  • LEGAL EXPERTISE IMMEDIATELY, when necessary, to resolve issues avoiding escalation of behaviour and protect teachers. 

  • CREATING CHANGE at a school level by taking a leading role advocating for teachers with principals, superintendents, and parent groups, etc.

  • ASSISTING Branch Presidents on demand.

Break Status Quo in Communication

When you contact me, I WILL:

  • RESPOND the same day.

  • LISTEN to your suggestions and use them to create improvement. 

  • SUPPORT the teachers in your school and be at your school one time each school year. 

  • DELEGATE EOs to take the lead on issues and be in the schools regularly. 

  • ASK teachers for direction as to how to improve their working lives.

  • SURVEY teachers as to how OSSTF Toronto is doing and reflect to create improvements.

  • IMPLEMENT hybrid meetings to open barriers for teachers.

  • DELIVER what I say as ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS.

  • BE HONEST with YOU.
